The merchant Elvar has a proposition for you: prove that you are industrious and trustworthy by earning 500 gold through your own honest labour, and he will bring you into a more lucrative arrangement. He does not explain the nature of the arrangement. In Aeternum, that is standard business practice. Show him that you understand the value of work, and doors will open.
Five hundred gold, earned through the weight of your own effort. Elvar examines your accounting with the careful attention of a man who knows exactly when the numbers are genuine. He sets his seal on a small contract and slides it across the table. 'Welcome,' he says, 'to a better class of problem.'
