Arena Overview
The VvW Arena is a 1v1 turn-based PvP system where players face each other using their current stats, gear, and equipped skills. Unlike open-world PvP, arena fights are fully resolved by the server — both players submit their action (Attack, Skill, Defend) simultaneously, and the round resolves according to the combat formula. Matches last up to 15 rounds; if no player is dead by round 15, the player with more remaining HP percentage wins.
Optional gold wagering is available at Silver rank and above: both players may wager up to 5% of their gold before the match. Wagers are held in escrow by the Arena system and transferred to the winner automatically. Losers receive a small consolation XP reward to soften the loss.
ELO System
VvW uses a standard ELO rating system with rank-adjusted K-factors to determine rating changes after each match. The formula:
K = 32 (below Diamond) · K = 24 (Diamond) · K = 16 (Legend+)
Actual = 1 for a win, 0 for a loss
Lower-ranked players gain more ELO from upsets against higher-ranked opponents. High-K brackets reward consistent performance more than lucky individual wins. Use the ELO Calculator tool to compute exact gain/loss for any matchup.
All 7 Rank Brackets
| Rank | ELO Range | K-Factor | % of Players | Floor ELO |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bronze | 0 – 999 | 32 | ~38% | None |
| Silver | 1,000 – 1,299 | 32 | ~28% | 900 |
| Gold | 1,300 – 1,599 | 32 | ~18% | 1,200 |
| Platinum | 1,600 – 1,899 | 32 | ~10% | 1,500 |
| Diamond | 1,900 – 2,199 | 24 | ~4% | 1,800 |
| Legend | 2,200 – 2,599 | 16 | ~1.5% | 2,100 |
| Grand Legend | 2,600+ | 16 | ~0.3% | 2,500 |
Decay & Floor Protection
ELO decay activates after 7 consecutive days of inactivity in ranked matches. Decay rates:
- Bronze – Gold: No decay.
- Platinum – Diamond: −15 ELO per inactive day after the 7-day grace period.
- Legend: −25 ELO per inactive day. No grace period.
- Grand Legend: −25 ELO per inactive day. No grace period.
Floor protection prevents a player's ELO from dropping below their current rank's floor value due to losses (but NOT due to decay — decay bypasses floor protection). This means a player at exactly 1,900 ELO (Diamond floor) cannot lose a match and fall back to Platinum, but can decay through the floor if inactive.
Play at least one ranked match per week to reset the decay timer. A single win resets the counter fully regardless of outcome (wins or losses both count as "activity").
Season System
Arena seasons run for 8 weeks. At season end, all player ELOs are reset to 75% of their final season ELO (soft reset). This pulls all players toward the median and ensures the leaderboard refreshes each season while rewarding prior performance. A player who ended Season 7 at 2,400 Legend would begin Season 8 at 1,800 ELO (Platinum floor), needing to climb back through Diamond and into Legend.
Season badges and cosmetics are awarded based on the highest rank achieved at any point during the season, not the rank at season end. This encourages players to push for peak rank in the first 6 weeks, then experiment without fear of losing cosmetics in the final stretch.

Matchmaking Algorithm
The Arena matchmaker seeks opponents within ±50 ELO of your current rating. If no match is found within 2 minutes, the search window expands by ±50 ELO per additional 2-minute wait (up to a maximum of ±300 ELO from your rating). This prevents indefinitely long queue times at thin-population ELO brackets such as Grand Legend.
At Grand Legend, the matchmaker uses a separate pool containing all Grand Legend players and sorts by recency of last match to ensure fair rotation. The Clan ELO system may override individual matching when a Clan Challenge is issued.
Clan ELO & Party Challenges
Clans maintain a Clan ELO rating separate from individual ratings. When a clan member wins a ranked match, their Clan ELO increases by 20% of the individual ELO change. Clan ELO determines standings in the weekly Clan War leaderboard and unlocks Clan perks at thresholds of 5,000 / 10,000 / 20,000 / 50,000 Clan ELO.
Party Challenges allow two players to agree to a ranked match outside the standard matchmaking queue. Both players' individual ELOs change normally. Party Challenges can only be initiated between players within ±300 ELO of each other to prevent boosting arrangements. Results contribute to Clan ELO.
Hall of Fame
The Hall of Fame permanently records every player who has achieved Grand Legend rank, organized by season and peak ELO. Grand Legend players who finish in the top 10 globally at season end receive an exclusive in-game statue displayed in the Crimson Highlands capital's Arena Atrium — a cosmetic monument visible to all players who visit the zone.
For the current season's meta builds and strategies used by top Grand Legend players, see the Guides section. The most successful Arena builds this season are Shadow Rogue (Vampire) and Pack Warrior (Werewolf), reflecting the current balance patch's emphasis on physical burst over sustained AP damage.
