The Berserker is the most powerful all-round subclass in the game post-Patch 1.2. Simple to understand but deeply rewarding to optimise — this guide takes you from subclass unlock to endgame dominance.
How Rage Works
The Berserker's defining mechanic is Rage: as your HP decreases, your damage output increases. The key thresholds:
- 100–70% HP: Normal damage
- 70–50% HP: +10% ATK bonus
- 50–30% HP: +20% ATK bonus
- Below 30% HP: +35% ATK bonus (Rage threshold — maximum power)
The Patch 1.2 HP buff means Berserkers now have a larger HP pool — which means they spend more time in the 50–30% bracket before reaching critical HP. This is the sweet spot: high damage bonus with enough HP to survive incoming attacks.
KEY INSIGHT
Don't heal unless you're about to die. Staying below 50% HP is intentional — you want to maintain the Rage bonus as long as possible. Use your skills to sustain through damage, not potions.
Stat Priority
- STR (Strength) — primary damage stat. Berserker's passive gives +35% STR, making this even more valuable.
- HP — more HP means more time in the optimal 50–30% Rage bracket. Post-1.2 HP buff stacks with HP gear perfectly.
- ATK — raw attack power. Stack after STR is well-developed.
- DEF — moderate investment. You need to survive long enough to reach Rage threshold.
- DEX — lowest priority. Berserker doesn't have crit-centric skills.
Core Skill Rotation
Opening: Get to Rage threshold fast
Open with a defensive skill or take 2–3 hits intentionally to drop to the 50–30% HP bracket. This sounds risky but it's calculated — you need to enter Rage before using your burst skills.
Rage Phase: Brutal Onslaught
Once in Rage (below 50% HP), unleash your highest ATK multiplier skills. At this point your damage output exceeds even Shadow Assassins at medium gear levels.
Sustain: Iron Will passive
Berserker's tier 2 passive prevents death below 10% HP once per battle. Don't waste potions — trust the passive to keep you alive for one more turn of maximum Rage output.
Best Gear (BiS)
- Weapon: Two-handed axes or hammers with STR + ATK. Higher item level beats all other stats on weapons.
- Chest: Heaviest DEF available + HP bonus. The Ironhide Plate from Dungeon 5 is top tier.
- Legs: STR scaling legs — faction-weighted Werewolf legs provide higher STR rolls.
- Belt: Potion Effectiveness belt. Berserkers use potions tactically (to stay just above death, not to heal fully) — higher effectiveness means smaller, more precise HP adjustments.
- Runes: Tier III Rune of Power (+18 STR) in weapon slots; Tier III Rune of Vitality (+180 HP) in armor slots.
Companion Choice
Best: Iron Bear — +12% max HP directly increases your Rage bracket longevity, and the Unstoppable passive at Lv 20 (+15% physical damage) stacks multiplicatively with Rage bonuses.
Alt: Wolf Spirit — +10% STR base bonus + Feral Surge (+25% ATK when below 50% HP) is perfectly timed to your Rage threshold.
Post-Patch 1.2 Notes
The Patch 1.2 HP buff gave Berserkers roughly +8% effective HP. This extended the time you survive in the 50–30% bracket by approximately 2–3 additional hits at average content difficulty. Against raid bosses, this extra HP window can mean 1–2 additional full Rage-phase damage cycles per fight — a significant DPS increase that pushed Berserker into S tier.
